Dr. Bowman's papers will prove of interest to researchers in a number of different fields. There are folders on various organizations, such as the National Education Association and the Selective Service Committee. Also of interest are school papers on such subjects as history and geography written by Dr. Bowman between the ages of 11-13, from 1904-1906. This collection will prove especially valuable to individuals interested in the history of Kent State University.

The 20th Commemoration of the Kent State shootings, held in 1990, remains one of the largest-attended of all the annual gatherings. George Arvene Bowman was born May 11, 1893, in Galion, Ohio. Due to the death of his father and illness of his mother, Bowman was raised by his grandfather in Edison, Ohio. He finished high school in 1911 and received a certificate which permitted him to teach elementary school in Ohio for one year. In September 1911, he began teaching at the one-room Gardner School.
